Danville police arrested an Oakland man for allegedly robbing a local CVS store at gunpoint on Tuesday morning.
Jonathan Szkotak, 33, was taken into custody on suspicion of robbery Tuesday night and later released from the Martinez Detention Facility on a $100,000 bond, according to Danville Police Chief Allan Shields.
The incident occurred just after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the CVS in the Sycamore Square Shopping Center on San Ramon Valley Boulevard, according to Shields.
A man wearing a surgical mask entered the store and handed the pharmacist a note demanding pharmaceuticals, Shields said, adding that the assailant displayed a black semi-automatic pistol as he was committing the robbery.
After receiving the medication, the man fled the scene in a gray Toyota Prius, according to Shields.
Police received an eye-witness description and were able to locate the vehicle through the use of the town’s automated license plate reader camera system, the police chief said. The system allegedly led police to Szkotak’s Oakland home, where they arrested him on suspicion of robbery.
Szkotak is also being investigated with a similar robbery that occurred in Danville in 2017, according to Shields.
“We’re extremely pleased with this result and the greatest cooperation we receive from our residents,” the chief added. “Between the witness description and our own camera system, we were able to track this suspect down quickly and safely.”
